Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The High Planning Commission (well known under its French acronym HCP) threw a spotlight last week on its results regarding Morocco’s nomad population, in the wake of the 2014 Moroccan census which was conducted between September 1st and September 20th, 2014.

According to the HCP, there are around 4,044 Moroccans living a nomad lifestyle, while in 2004 their number amounted to 68,540.

The aforementioned numbers represent a 63% decrease in the number of Moroccan nomads.

The nomadic population is mostly illiterate as their illiteracy rate stands at 81, 9%, while in Morocco as a whole, it stands at 32.2%.

Nomadic women are the most affected by this scourge (illiteracy) than their men counterpart (89.5% for women nomads against 74.9% for the male gender).
