Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Morocco’s head of the government and secretary general of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), has been staunchly criticized by mainstream Moroccans, including members of his party for asking “PJD members and sympathizers not to take part in any protests,” on the sidelines of the ongoing protests across Morocco to denounce the killing of Mouhcine Fikri.

“Benkirane is asking PJD members and sympathizers not to join the protests that will take place across the kingdom,” Adil Slimani, a youth member of the PJD said in a Facebook post.

“I tell him, respectfully: No. I will go out and I will join the protests,” stressed the PJD youth member.

Another youth member criticized Benkirane saying, “Benkirane has been crying during the electoral campaign period when he arguably saw a huge number of poor Moroccans support him, but where are his tears now when a poor Moroccan has been crushed to death inside a trash lorry, in the worst inhuman way a human being could pass away?”

“He should have been crying more this time as a Moroccan citizen has been crushed to death by the same authorities that stood with the PAM party during the elections. I respect your opinion, but I will not follow it and I will go out without a second guess,” the PJD member further noted.
