Ban Ki-moon discusses Western Sahara with King Mohammed VI

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- A statement from the United Nations said that the UN’s Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon talked with King Mohammed VI, on the sidelines of the COP22 event, over Morocco’s Western Sahara issue.

In their talks, Ban Ki-moon “underscored the importance of making progress in the Western Sahara negotiating process,” the UN’s statement read.

Ban Ki-moon also “called in for the adoption of “relevant Security Council resolutions,” the UN communiqué added.

The UN secretary general also “thanked King Mohammed VI for his warm welcome in Marrakesh and congratulated Morocco on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its entry into the United Nations.”

“The Secretary-General commended Morocco’s contribution to the work of the Organisation, including through the deployment of peacekeepers, as well as its leadership in support of the climate change agenda,” the UN’s communiqué read.
