Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- King Mohammed VI of Morocco traveled this afternoon to Ethiopia to attend the 28th African Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in view of the AU officially re-accepting Morocco as a member of the African body next week.

King Mohammed VI’s symbolic visit to attend the Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) at the AU headquarters in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, is a symbolic gesture to mesmerize Morocco’s successful diplomatic efforts to reclaim its seat within the African body after it left the AU’s predecessor, the Organization of African Unity (OAU), 32 years ago in protest of this latter’s support of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), a separatist movement in the south of Morocco not recognized by the United Nations.

King Mohammed VI is accompanied during this visit by Prince Moulay Ismail and an official delegation composed in particular of the sovereign’s Advisor, Fouad Ali El Himma, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, and other civil and military figures.
