Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The separatist movement in Western Sahara, the Polisario front, has welcomed Morocco’s readmission to the African Union, only few days after opposing the decision through their ambassador-at-large Sidi Omar when stressing that “it violates the AU’s position against colonialism.”

This time Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, the foreign minister of the self-proclaimed Sahraoui Arab Democratic Republic, not recognized by the United Nations and all leading democracies of the international community, said that Morocco’s readmission was a “positive step for the people of Western Sahara”.

Last week on the other hand, Sidi Omar, the delegation’s ambassador-at-large stressed that the African Union decision to admit Morocco without settling the Western Sahara issue violates the AU’s position against colonialism.

Sidi Omar even said when speaking to Voice of America that such a decision, without settling the Western Sahara question, will lead to chaos.

“It does not only concern Western Sahara or the Sahara Republic,” he said.

“It does concern Africa as a whole. … If this principle of borders is not respected, Africa will be doomed to chaos.”
