Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- A heated debate and mixed feelings were witnessed in Morocco in the post gaze of King Mohammed VI reliving Abdellilah Benkirane from his duties as head of government in charge of forming a government coalition.

The first group of Moroccans, a minority compared to the second one, expressed shadenfreude and happiness at the demise of Benkirane, blaming him for the stalling of negotiations and for Morocco’s economic woes, stressing that he failed not in increasing prices of goods in Morocco during the last years of his mandate.

The second group, on the other hand, deemed the man a hero, a nationalist who stood to the Makhzen’s machination aiming to balkanize the Moroccan political scene, further stressing that Benkirane made a lot of concessions, including accepting to dispense the party of Al-Istiqlal.
