Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- On the sidelines of the symposium on the ongoing wave of protests in the Rif, a symposium initiated by the head of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region Ilyas Elomari, Rif activist Mounir El Yaakoubi asked the Moroccan Minister of Justice Mohamed Aujjar whether he is part of “a government or a gang,” making allusion to an early communiqué from the 6 parties of the government coalition labeling peaceful Rif protests as “separatists”, before flip-flopping few days following the communiqué getting ridiculed by mainstream Moroccans.

“Various people in Al Hoceima asked me to ask you this question,” El Yaakoubi said.

“Are you a government or a gang?” Al Yaakoubi asked.

“Please answer my question, you said we are separatists,” the activist angrily said.

It is worth reminding that “are you a government or a gang?” is a well-known slogan that has been shouted in many protests in Al Hoceima, Rabat, and various other Moroccan cities amid the ongoing protests.

After hearing the question, Aujjar was caught relaxed and tried soothingly to talk to the activist.

It is worth reminding that the symposium organized by Elomari has been boycotted by various local human rights organizations and political parties like the PJD and the PPS.
