Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The Moroccan authorities have accentuated during the last days the wave of arrests and repression against Rif protesters.

The use of teargas almost every night to stifle the daily night protests has become a mundane matter according to local sources.

Local activists told The Moroccan Times that the number of arrests is estimated to stand at least around 200.

Given the difficulty to have access to information, mingled with the fact that the Moroccan government rarely communicates on the issue, it is difficult though to have a good estimate of the number of arrests.

The wave of recent arrests also included other Moroccan cities like Tangier where activist Jamal Bouheddou was arrested before being transferred to Casablanca.

Moroccans are now calling upon king Mohammed VI to intervene and release the detainees by activating the royal pardon procedure.
