Casablanca, Morocco (TMT)- Wydad Athletic Club’s skipper Abdelatif Noussir said in post-game statement to Moroccan sports news outlet Hesport that Bakary Gassama, the referee of yesterday’s African Champions League final never informed him before the kickoff that the Video Assisted Referee (VAR) system was not working.
“The referee never told me anything about the VAR,” Noussir said as the video above illustrates.
“The question of the VAR being available or not is something that was addressed during the protocolary technical meeting before the game,” Noussir further added.
“We have official documents, we received during the technical meeting, that states that the VAR will be available during the game,” Noussir stressed.
Noussir’s statement goes against those of Khalil Chemmam who told BeIN Sports at the end of the game that Bakary Gassama told both skippers few minutes before the game, on the field, that “there was an issue with the VAR, and that it may be not available, or later on activated during the game,” further stressing that the Wydad captain does not “neither understand French, nor English.”
