Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- 5 more people were arrested yesterday in Morocco after spreading fake news that aims to undermine public order.

This brings the total number of people arrested for similar incidents in the Moroccan kingdom since the start of the outbreak to 16.

A statement from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security said that the arrested people shared “deceitful information” that “undermines the country’s public order.”

Fake news shared by these people spread like wildfire among Moroccans on social media platforms, especially Facebook and WhatsApp.

The statement further noted that such information creates havoc and panic among Moroccans amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The Moroccan government has also adopted a few days ago a new draft law that will see any person who spreads wrong information on social media platforms jailed.
