Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Dr. Mohamed Lyoubi, head of the epidemiology department at the Moroccan Ministry of Health, said in a press conference that Morocco’s decision to use Plaquenil (chloroquine) “is a sovereign decision,” taken by the Moroccan government after consultations with the Ministry of Health.

Lyoubi stressed that the results from the use of chloroquine to treat coronavirus patients showed “very encouraging results.”

Morocco has used Chlorequine since the start of the outbreak, though they kept the decision secret for a long time.

The Moroccan head of government Othmani appeared to commit a political gaffe when he shared the news on Twitter, before deleting his post a few minutes after posting it.

He said on Twitter eight days ago that “all cases infected with Coronavirus in Morocco are actually being treated with Plaquenil,” but he removed his tweet 30 minutes after.
