Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- US President Donald Trump retweeted a call demanding the firing of Dr. Anthony Faucy, one of the lead members of the United States Coronavirus Task Force in the North American country.

Trump’s move came following Dr. Fauci criticizing Trump’s initial response to the virus in an interview on CNN.

Fauci said an earlier response “could have saved more lives.”

Following his feature on CNN, Trump retweeted former Republican congressional candidate DeAnne Lorraine’s tweet that called for firing Fauci.

She wrote that “Fauci is now saying that had Trump listened to the medical experts earlier he could’ve saved more lives,” further stressing in her tweet that it is “time to #fireFauci”.

Trump retweeted her shortly after, adding the following: “Sorry Fake News, it’s all on tape. I banned China long before people spoke up. Thank you.”

Trump has been criticized heavily in his country for downplaying the threat of the coronavirus and not taking it seriously during the dawn phase of the pandemic.

It is worth reminding that the US has recorded more infections and deaths than any other country hit by the virus.

The death toll currently stands at 22,000, while more than 557,500 infection cases were registred.
