Morocco: Head of Prison Sacked after infection of 60 employees and inmates with Coronavirus

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)-  The head of the local prison of Ouarzazate, a city dubbed the “door of the desert,” was given his marching orders following the infection of the majority of the prison employees with COVID-19, including at least 6 inmates.

A statement from Morocco’s General Directorate of Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) announced the piece of information.

infections include 60 prison employees and at least 6 detainees.

The DGAPR stressed that all detainees will be tested for COVID-19, following the initial restricting of testing to correctional officers, prison staff, including a few numbers of detainees who showed COVID-19 symptoms.

A new prison director was also appointed following the sacking of the former head for his “dereliction of duty and negligence” in controlling the pandemic and adopting the right measures that would keep the virus at bay.
