The Spanish news agency Europa Press said the Spanish government is offering 500 dollars to irregular migrants in Morocco who wish to return voluntarily to their country of origin.

The same source added that this program is also funded by the governments of Switzerland, Holland, and Belgium in order to “foster the Human aspect in Morocco ‘s management of irregular migration on its soil,” the agency quoted the International Migration Organization (IMO) saying.

It is worth pointing out that this program has already helped 4,269 migrants return to their countries of origin. The  Program stated years ago but was interrupted from 2005 to end 2013 due to the lack of financing.

In January 2013, thanks to the contribution of the previously cited governments, the program re-launched with 597 migrants from 16 countries benefiting and returning to their respective countries.

According to the IMO, Sub-Saharan men benefited mostly from the program and Spain, alone, spent 400 000 euros since the program’s re-launch.
