A video, aired on Al Arabiya channel, featuring a Saudi citizen making fun of the “Morocco” English appellation, has sparked a lot controversy among Moroccans.
The Saudi said the English appellation “Morocco” does not reflect its true Arabic meaning “Al Maghrib” which translates to sunset.
He added that “Morocco” seems to him like “Marqa” (means sauce in Arabic) whenever he hears it.
The Saudi suggested switching “Morocco” to “Al Maghrib”. He added that Saudi Arabia’s English appellation, for example, reflects it true meaning.
Many Moroccans made fun of the Saudi citizen remarks.
One Moroccan was caught saying on Facebook “ I know very well why he drew the Morocco/“Marqa” analogy,”
“The Fat Saudi can only think about “Marqa”(sauce), couscous, Tagines, and his fat belly.”
