As World leaders gather in The Hague City, Netherlands for the Nuclear Security Summit, a “sexist story” sparked a lot of debate among Europeans.
Mind you Ladies and Gentlemen, this year, No “blondes” and No pretty girls will serve lunch to World leaders.
Why is it so?
According to Dutch national newspaper the Algemeen Dagblad, the director of the catering company, Hans van der Linde, was told to make the serving staff appear uniform.
Hans van der linde said “If 20 gentlemen are serving and three platinum blonde ladies, then that spoils the image,”
“The personnel needs to act in as reserved a manner as possible, and you can’t achieve that by adding a couple of pretty, conspicuous ladies to the mix,” he added.
The summit’s spokesperson Mr.Daphne Kerremans, on the other hand, confirmed they requested the catering staff to appear uniform. Yet, he added it was left up to the caterer to decide for the staff’s gender.
European media outlets did not buy these statements and hinted that “maybe the presence of Muslim leaders lead to such a decision.”
Others, at the image of The Independent, reported experts saying “In such World summits, everything is taken into consideration and this includes preventing the world leaders from getting distracted”
