On the sidelines of Mr. Mezouar’s participation in the 3rd Nuclear Security Summit held in The Hague, a meeting with his Dutch counterpart, Mr. Frans Timmermans, to discuss Geert Wilders“Fewer, Fewer, Fewer Moroccans” comments took place.

According to the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions “mainly focused on the resurgence of attacks by Geert Wilders and its right extreme party against the Moroccans living in the Netherlands.”

Mr. Timmermans was caught saying Geert Wilders’s words were «vindictive and ignorant»  and were expressed “purely for electoral reasons.”

According to the same source, Mr. Timmermans added that ”Morocco is and will remain a friendly country of the Netherlands.”

Mr. Timmerrmans also welcomed the wisdom of Morocco in dealing with this issue.

For his part, Mr. Mezouar welcomed the role played by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs to contain this problem and called his Dutch counterpart” to work together for the establishment of a common strategy for promoting the values of freedom and defending the interests of the Moroccan community to whom His Majesty King Mohammed VI pays a particular interest”, as relayed by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Mezouar also “underlined that the words of Geert Wilders are « provocative and undermine the bilateral relations, since they affect Morocco’s image and its religious and civilizational specificity.”
