The two well known Moroccan Salafist figures, Sheikh Mohamed Hassan Kettani and Sheikh Mohamed Fizazi, have shed the light on the status of Women rights from an Islamic perspective, in a recent conference held in Oujda.

According to Sheikh Kattaini “Thanks to Islam, woman have acquired an equal status with men and have been enjoying all their rights;whereas in the West, woman are still treated as objects”.

The reformed Moroccan Salafi-jihadist that led this Friday prayer in the king’s presence in Tangiers, Sheikh Fizazi, who was sentenced for 30 years prison over the 2003 Casablanca bombings and freed after the 2011 royal pardon, reiterated that “Europe and America did not offer much freedom to women, but only to their beauty”.

As far as polygamy is concerned, Sheikh Fizazi stated that “Polygamy is everywhere; while its Halal according to the Islamic jurisprudence; in the West however, societies are even on the way to accept the secret cheating on wives”.

In a strong closing argument, Fizazi spelled out “If I had the choice, I would have chosen to be a woman rather than a man, because our religion gives more rights for women than for men”.
