Human Rights Watch and Reporters Without Borders have strongly condemned the Algerian authorities for their recent “repressive practices” against the peaceful demonstrations and protests.

“The Algerian Authorities should stop these repressive practices by repealing the 2001 decree, banning demonstrations in Algiers, so that Algerians can exercise their full right to peacefully demonstrate everywhere in Algeria” said Human Rights Watch in a recent statement.

Reporters Without Borders condemned also the attack on two Algerian journalists, working for the El Watan newspaper,  and a French photographer, working for the same newspaper. According to RWB, the two journalists and the photographer were “chased and threatened with death by six men in a vehicle”.
