Morocco grossed 46.6 billion dirhams (US$ 5.7 billion) in export revenues in quarter one this year, up 3.5% from 45 billion dirhams (US$ 5.5 billion) in the same period last year, according to the Moroccan government’s foreign trade department.

The increase was driven by relatively new exporting sectors, namely the auto industry, whose exports amounted to 2.97 billion dirhams (US$ 364.5 million) in quarter one, up 43.3% from the same period in 2013.

The statistics also show that exports also increased for electronics (21.2%), aeronautics (5.9%) and pharmaceuticals (3.7%). However, revenues from foreign sales of agricultural products and foodstuffs dropped (2.5%).
