Munir El Haddadi Decides to Play for Morocco

EDITOR’S NOTE: This article was written by Mr. Najib Laaziz last April 2014, 5 months before Munir el Haddadi’s first official game with the Spanish national team La Roja. Back-then, when he was playing for F.C Barcelona’s youth team, and at a time when he was not yet a “media sensation”, he told various Italian sources that he will play for Morocco if he gets called up.

The young FC Barcelona talent Munir El Haddadi, who is entitled with a double Moroccan-Spanish nationality, decided yesterday that he will play for the Moroccan football team (The Atlas Lions),  according to many Italian news outlets.

Munir, who made this decision after he has been called to represent the Moroccan U20 squad, said that he is a very big fan of Adel Taarabt, and would love to play alongside him in the same lineup someday.

“Spain U-16 officials have already contacted me to join the team. But if I get a call up from Morocco I will surely respond because it is my country of origin,” El Haddadi said.

Munir has become the center of attention of top teams in Europe after his striking performance in the Youth’s Champions league, that the Blaugrana secured thanks to his amazing two goals in the final game of the competition.

His dream to play with Messi in Barcelona might however keep him in Barca for a few more years at least.

The Following video features a grandiose goal scored by Munir.
