In its 2014 ranking of the “emerging cities that may join within 10 to 20 years the world’s mega-cities,” the prestigious U.K based consulting firm Kearney put the city of Casablanca in the 22nd position.

The ranking in question identified 34 emerging cities located primarily in Asia and Africa.

The capitals of Indonesia (Jakarta) and the Philippines (Manila) ranked first and second respectively.

Concerning Africa, the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa ranked 3rd, followed by Nairobi (9th), Johannesburg (13th), Cape Town (16th), Tunisia (18th), Casablanca (22nd), Cairo ( 30th), and Lagos (32nd).

As to establish its rankings, the firm takes into account five criteria, namely, the economic activity, the human capital, the easiness of information exchange, cultural offers, and political influence.
