The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has recently released its 2014 Global Peace Index. Morocco is, according to this index, the 63rd most peaceful country in the world, with an index of 1.915, which has increased by 0,032 compared to last year.

The Kingdom is ranked sixth in MENA region behind Qatar (22nd), Kuwait (37th), United Arab Emirates (40th), Jordan (56th) and Oman (59th) while Tunisia was ranked 79th and Algeria 114th.

Morocco is considered by the IEP as a country where the “state of peace” is “high” Compared to other countries in the MENA region.

The least peaceful countries in the region are Iraq (159th) and Syria (162) with indices of 3.377 and 3.650 respectively.

Iceland (1.189), Denmark (1.193), Austria (1.2) and Switzerland are considered the five most peaceful countries in the world by the IEP.

The IEP index is based on 22 factors including political instability, the level of violent crimes and the number of people incarcerated.
