After that the Spanish football league chief Javier Tebas announced that FC Barcelona would not be allowed to play in la liga if Catalonia broke away from Spain, the elections on Catalonia’s independence were canceled.

Catalonia’s president Arturo Mars declared that the Catalan Government decided to cancel the referendum that was supposed to be held later next month.

This statement from Catalonia’s president made it clear to the Spanish Football press that FC Barcelona will stay competing in the Spanish League.

Note that many FC Barcelona Superstars such as Xavi and Pique support holding an independence referendum.

Xavi has already stated in a conference the following:  “We have all the right in the world to vote. We need to vote, we need the people to show their opinions and I am in favor of the referendum obviously.’’

Pique was also caught saying that “I am Catalan and I wanted to take part in the rally. I went with friends to have a good time with the other 1.8 million that were there.”
