The story sounds unpalatable to the ear, yet so true reports the Moroccan daily Al Massae in its today’s edition.

The event I am about to narrate occurred in Douar Ait Mhaouech, located in the suburbs of Marrakech. The residents woke up on a call for help from the local mosque, issued by the imam via the mosque’s megaphone.

It all started when the imam -who woke up as usual in dawn time to call for the Fajr prayer- was surprised to find himself face to face with three thugs, who broke into the mosque at night time.

Al Masae said that the three individuals forced the door of the mosque after a drunken night. When they saw the Imam inside the mosque, they tied him then locked him up in an adjacency room, not realizing that the room contains a megaphone and serves to call five times a day for prayers.

Only few minutes after his incarceration, the imam took advantage of the golden opportunity and shouted from the room a help call using the mosque’s megaphone.

“Allah Akbar! Help Me! Help Me. 3atkou Rouh. We have thugs in the mosque, the imam was reported to have shouted.

Soon after that, in a hurry, the residents of the Douar encircled the mosque each carrying a baton after being awakened by the imam’s call for help.

The residents were able to catch two of the three thugs, while the third one was reported to be on the loose until the very moments of writing these lines.

Al Massae closed saying that “it turned out that the two arrested thugs live in the same Douar while the third fugitive has not yet been identified.”

Really! What a mind blowing story! Moroccan Hollywood at its best.
