The former Burkina Faso President, Blaise Compaore, an authoritarian president who was forced to step down by his people after having held a firm fist on the country for 27 years, is in Morocco for a “limited stay.”

A statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, relayed by Maghreb Press Agency, said that Burkina Faso’s ex-president arrived Thursday night in Casablanca with 5 other people for “a fixed-term stay.”

The statement noted further that “the Kingdom of Morocco, which has strong historical, human and political ties with Burkina Faso, reaffirms its support to the transition process in the country and congratulate the brother people of Burkina Faso and its driving forces for their spirit of patriotism and responsibility in this important stage of their history.”

It is worth reminding that the upraising was triggered as a result of Campaore trying to enact a new law in the Burkina Faso parliament to allow him seek another term as a president.
