The Moroccan Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Mr. Rachid Belmokhtar, surprised France 24 journalists, after they asked him for an interview in Arabic to be broadcast in France 24 Arabic, when answering them in French je ne connais pas l’arabe. (I don’t speak Arabic)

According to the Moroccan daily Akhbar Al Yaoum, various France 24 journalists present at the scene were very surprised and could not fathom the fact that a “Minister of Education does not even speak his country’s official language.”

The event happened during the recent ceremony held at the Arab World Institute in Paris, an event which saw Princess Lalla Meryem decorate Khalil Merroun, rector of Evry mosque, Michel Serfaty, rabbi of Ris-Orangis and Michel Dubost, Evry bishop, with Wissam Al Arch of third class (officer).
