Rabat, Morocco-  The Moroccan authorities arrested a dozen of blind and visually impaired people last weekend after they held a protest in front of the Moroccan parliament in Rabat and obstructed the traffic in the Mohammed V Avenue.

The blind and visually impaired were calling during the protests for more “consideration” and asked the Moroccan governments to shoehorn a quota in the public sector to enable them get jobs, as they find difficulties in entering the Moroccan job market.

The protest started peacefully as the said group were protesting on the sidewalk adjacent to the parliament, but as soon as they moved to the main road and obstructed the traffic, the authorities intervened and asked them to move back to the sidewalk.

Against their insistence in protesting on the main road and not on the sidewalk, the Moroccan authorities proceed to arrest a dozen of them and moved others to the sidewalk.

Some of the blind and visually impaired were injured during the clash with the authorities.
