Morocco Receives First Set of High Speed Trains

Morocco’s prospective TGVs are expected to operate starting from 2016.

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)-The French industrial group Alstom is currently in the process of delivering the first TGV train designed to the Moroccan market.

The TGV is currently transiting from the port of La Rochelle, Bordeaux, France to port Tanger Med, located in the north of Morocco.

This first train will be tested in the road rails between Kenitra and Tangier, before 11 other trains will be sent subsequently.

The testing phase will last around 18 months, a statement from Morocco’s ONCF (Office National des Chemins de Fer du Maroc) read.

It is worth reminding that Morocco ordered 12 TGV trains from the leading French industrial group Alstom.

Morocco’s prospective TGVs are expected to operate towards the end of 2017.

Initially, they will connect Tangier to Kenitra in 47 minutes, Tangier to Rabat in 1 hour 20 minutes, and Tangier- Casablanca in 2 hours 10 minutes.
