Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- On the sidelines of Human Rights Watch reporting on the human rights dimensions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization said “at least 84 countries have imposed emergency policies and measures due to the COVID-19 crisis, but very few of them have informed the UN of derogations of their human rights obligations.

“According to publicly available notifications deposited with the UN, only 11 countries have formally informed the UN of derogations from their human rights obligations as of April 15,” Human Rights Watch said.

The organization said that Morocco, Bolivia, and France have imposed “health” emergencies without formally notifying relevant treaty bodies, mainly the United Nations, of their derogations from their human rights obligations vis-a-vis citizens.
