Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- A study published by the British scientific magazine “Dylan Site” has revealed that heat waves in Morocco are responsible for around 250 deaths each year due to climate change.

The study estimates that Morocco will experience an average of 123.4 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants due to heat waves between the years 2081 and 2100.

The study also suggests that about 80% of heat wave deaths could be avoided if the global average temperature were kept around 2% above pre-industrial levels, as envisaged by the Paris Agreement.

On a positive note, the researchers note that countries in North Africa and the Middle East have relatively lower heat wave death rates compared to Europeans due to factors such as youth, air conditioning, and reflexes to protect against heat waves.
