RABAT- Morocco has officially expressed its disapproval over statements by Margaritis Schinas, the Vice President of the European Commission. Schinas has controversially characterized Morocco recently as an authoritarian regime, one that exploits the migration crisis.
Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs formally voiced its discontent to the European Union about the statement.
The protest was primarily due to the recurring negative remarks made by Schinas against Morocco. His comments, particularly those made during the recent European Security and Defense Summit in Brussels, which accused Morocco of using migrants as a diplomatic pawn in its disputes with Europe, was the last straw that broke the camel’s back to Rabat.
