Oujda, Morocco – Two law enforcement officers, a police officer and an inspector in Ahfir, Morocco, are currently under investigation for criminal acts of bribery, blackmail, and participation in these illegal activities, the State Police Judiciary in Oujda confirmed yesterday. The investigation was initiated under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.

The case was sparked when a local cafe owner lodged a formal complaint, accusing the police officer of using his position for extortion. According to the complainant, the officer had demanded money in return for turning a blind eye on some of his official duties. The inspector was also implicated as a suspected participant in these activities.

Acting on the complaint, the public prosecutor’s office promptly ordered a judicial investigation, which led to the arrest of the two officers on June 14th.

Searches conducted at the arrested officer’s residence yielded a significant sum of money believed to be the proceeds from the alleged acts of extortion and bribery. As the investigation continues, both officers have been placed under provisional custody.

In addition to the judicial investigation, the General Directorate of National Security has temporarily suspended the officers from duty.
