A leader of Ukraine’s pro-Western interim government has said Russia’s activation of its military forces is an apparent declaration of war.

Russian President Vladimir Putin gained approval on Saturday from the Upper House to use forces in Ukraine, indicating the intention to intervene militarily.

Ukraine’s acting Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk made the remarks in a news conference on Sunday.

He called on the international community to increase its pressure on Russia to prevent its military intervention.

He said he believes European countries, the United States and the international community will support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s interim government on Sunday ordered its military forces to be ready for combat and call up its reserve forces.

Meanwhile, Russian troops deployed in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in southern Ukraine began to conduct activities outside their military bases. Ethnic Russian residents are the majority of Crimea’s population.

A Ukrainian navy commander on Sunday pledged loyalty to Crimean residents at the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters in the port of Sevastopol.
