A communiqué released by the Royal Palace said that King Mohammed VI will address next Wednesday a speech to the nation, which will be broadcast through national TV and radio.

The speech will be delivered on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the “Revolution of the King and the people.”

The event is a regarded in Morocco as a memorial to remember the deportation on August 20, 1953 of  the late King Mohammed V and the royal family by the colonial authorities to Madagascar. At that time, the exile was a clear sign of the end of the protectorate.

According to some Moroccan political analysts, King Mohammed VI could “answer” Algeria’s recent statement “that it is Morocco that does not want to open the borders.”
