The Gabonese subsidiary of Maroc Telecom in Gabon, namely Gabon Telecom, has launched recently 3G and 4G technologies in Gabon, Morocco’s leading economy newspaper Leconomiste reported.

The event was apparently “grandiose” in Morocco’s bosom-friend-country as Maroc Telecom’s CEO, Abdessalam Ahizoune, flew in person to Libreville and was even received by the President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba.

It is worth pointing out that Maroc Telecom is also present in many African countries including Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Central African Republic, Niger, Togo, Mali and Mauritania.

The Emirati group Etisalat has a 53,09% shares in Maroc Telecom while the Moroccan state owns 30% of the shares.

Most of the remaining stakes are floating in the Casablanca Stock Exchange.
