Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Salaheddine Mezouar said during a party gathering of the youth section of the National Rally of Independents party (known under its French acronym RNI) that “Morocco’s islamists were created by the state in the 70’s to counter the rise of the left wing.”

Mezouar, who is also the secretary general of the RNI, stressed that “the state created them and told them to go ahead and hustle hard the left wing, especially in universities.”

“I was young at that time and I remember well that we fought back hard against that backward ideology,” Mezouar added.
