Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Following the measures taken by the Moroccan government, announced yesterday in an official communiqué by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Morocco presented to the UN General Secretariat the list of persons affected by the significant reduction of the civilian and the political segments of the MINURSO, a list that contains 84 international staff members.

”The Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of Morocco in New York delivered today, to the Secretary General of the United Nations, the list of persons affected by the significant reduction of the civilian component, and particularly the political segment, of MINURSO. Their departure will take place in the upcoming days,” reads a communiqué from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As a matter of fact, following Ban-Ki-moon loosing his neutrality on the Sahara dossier when using the word “occupation” to describe the presence of Morocco in its Sahara, the Moroccan government has decided the following immediate measures:

➢ A significant reduction, in the coming days, of a large part of the civilian component and particularly the political segment of MINURSO;

➢ The cancellation of the voluntary contribution granted by Morocco to the functioning of MINURSO;

➢The Examination of withdrawal procedures of the Moroccan troops involved in Peacekeeping Operations.

“The Kingdom of Morocco reserves the legitimate right to resort to other measures that might be required to defend, in strict respect of UN Charter, its high interests, its sovereignty and its territorial integrity,” a communiqué from Morocco’s FM read.
