The Moroccan Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva , organized on Monday a high-level panel about ” Policies to manage migration and asylum issues” while highlighting the newly adopted Moroccan migration and asylum policy.
Anis Birou, Minister in charge of Moroccans living abroad and migration affairs, stressed on the human dimension of this initiative, launched by Morocco in September.
“The new policy provides concrete and operational responses to a complex issue that concerns not only Morocco, but also African and European countries; this policy, in fact, aims at ensuring for migrants the same rights enjoyed by Moroccan citizens”. Said Mr. Birou. The goal, Minister Birou added, is to ensure the optimal protection for all immigrants, regardless of their race , ethnicity or religion; in accordance with international laws and standards.
William Swing, General Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM ), congratulated, on his turn, the Kingdom for the success of the its new initiative in the field of migration and asylum , and described it as ” an encouraging measure ” taken in favor of immigrants .
