“It is one in a series of invitations I have received to speak about Brazil, on the topic of the World Cup”, says Meyer about the lectures. He tells us that the championship to be held in Brazil has piqued the Moroccans’ interest in learning more about the country. “The Moroccans love football and Brazil”, he points out.

“I will talk about bilateral trade, the presence of the embassy, the fact that a visa is not needed (to go to Brazil), the new airline route, Brazil being Morocco’s third biggest trading partner, the Arab immigration there,” explains Meyer.

He claims the topics debated in the lecture may vary according to the knowledge students have of Brazil. Next week, Meyer will speak at a school in the city of Mohammedia.

Football is also a very popular sport in Morocco. In general, Moroccans know the names of the main Brazilian players, such as Pelé, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaká. Last December, Fifa Club World Cup gathered Brazilian and Moroccan supporters in the semifinal between Atlético Mineiro and Raja Casablanca, when the Moroccan club scored 3×1.
