Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Salaheddine Mezouar, defended Morocco’s decision to arrest Moroccan journalist Ali Anouzla.

Mezouar answered a journalist’s question over Ali Anouzla’s case in a joint press conference with US Secretary of state John Kerry.  He said that Anouzla’s case was dealt by Moroccan justice, and called for the “respect” of this institution’s prerogatives.

Anouzla was arrested following accusations of inciting terrorism after posting a link to a video attributed to Al Qaeda in the Maghreb on his website, Lakome, on September 2013. The US had expressed its “concerns” over his arrest, and urged Moroccan authorities to treat this case in a fair and transparent manner.

While Anouzla is no longer in prison, charges against him have not been alleviated and he is still expected to appear in court on May 20.
