AS Roma has announced the signing of English defender Ashley Cole.  Cole, who was a free agent since leaving Chelsea, signed a two year contract with the Roman Club after 8 years spent at Chelsea. He was unveiled to the media at the club’s headquarters in Rome earlier today.

Ashley Cole said that he decided to join Roma to continue playing in the Champions League with a great and ambitious club. He added: “I realised how much the club wanted me and that they considered me useful to their project and I jumped at the opportunity. I arrive at an ambitious club and hope to win here.”

Roma finished second last year in the Italian Serie A. Ashley Cole described his move to AS Roma as a challenge he is ready to take. He said: “I am not afraid of the pressure to win because I spent 14 years in England always fighting for a starting spot and that’s what I want to continue doing.  I am also ready to fight for a place in the team and to try to win.”

He won four 4 FA cups with Chelsea, one Premier League title in 2010 and the Champions League in 2012.
