Around 10000 people took to the streets of Casablanca yesterday to denounce the Israeli government’s ongoing onslaught in the Gaza Strip.

The protest was initiated by the forbidden but tolerated (due to its huge number of followers in Morocco) Islamic Association of Al Adl Wal Ihsan (AWI).

Some of the protesters were caught waving Hamas’ flags while others were even carrying cardboard rockets and missiles, in a move to show support to what they referred to during the demonstration as the legitimate resistance, though the very same organization is considered by Israel, the U.S. and many European countries a terrorist one.

According to the AFP, among the slogans that were shouted, the one could hear: “We want to go to Gaza,” “Death to Israel” and “We want to avenge our brothers.”

According to said source, Aherchane Omar, a young member of the AWI said that “protesting against this assault is the least we can do for the Palestinians.”

After 28 days of conflict, the death toll, on the Palestinians side, has reached over 1800 dead and 9320 wounded, from which around 80% are civilians.

On the Israeli side, 64 soldiers and three civilians passed away.
