The Moroccan authorities seized in the north of the country (in the surroundings of Tangier) a partly-destroyed light aircraft used to smuggle drugs from Morocco to Spain.

According to the Moroccan daily Akhbar Al Yaoum, the light aircraft probably belongs to a gang whose modus operandi is to smuggle Moroccan hashish into Spain on such aircrafts.

Early reports, after conducting an investigation, indicate that the aircraft suffered from a technical problem, which lead its pilot to land urgently and burn it, as not to be recognized and traceable by the authorities.

It is worth reminding that 3 months ago, the Moroccan authorities in cooperation with their Spanish counterparts, successfully confiscated 4 light aircrafts used by a notorious gang, which operated from Cadiz, a city located in the south of Spain.

Drug gangs now use such light aircrafts as they don’t make much noise.Their modus operandi is to fly at night, especially foggy ones, at very low altitudes to avoid showing up on the authorities’ radars. They don’t activate the aircrafts’ transponder as to make their identification very difficult, in case they show up on radars in the first place. Once they get to Morocco, they pick up the drugs and fly back to Spain.
