A statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that a member of the diplomatic staff of the Embassy of Morocco in Pretoria, South Africa, was found dead at his home, on Tuesday, Oct. 7th, 2014.

The murdered diplomat goes by the name Noureddine El Fatmi and was the first secretary of the Moroccan Embassy in South Africa.

The late was killed in his apartment-hotel, where he was staying in Pretoria, South Africa’s capital.

The case was triggered when his coworkers at the Moroccan embassy raised suspicions when he did not show up as usual to work on Tuesday.  The suspicions were amplified when his colleagues found out that his cellphone was off the whole time.

“He did not turn up for work at the normal time, which seemed strange because he was always on time. His phone was off,” his colleague told AFP.

Some of his colleagues decided later on to head to his place and sadly discovered him lying in the ground “in a pool of blood,” as one of his colleagues at the Moroccan embassy put it.

His college told AFP that “it has to be a robbery.”

The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that an investigation was opened on the matter and  that the administrative and legal procedures, are underway, in collaboration with the South African authorities.

On another note, it is worth reminding that around 50 people are murdered in South Africa on a daily basis.
