Al Azhar University Sacks Scholar Who Said “God Won’t Accept Moroccans Fasting and Eid Celebration”

Al Azhar university officials decided to sack Youssef Aïd, the secretary general of Al Azhar university’s Legal Judgement Comettee (أمين لجنة الفتوى) few days following the sweeping statement he made on the eve of Morocco celebrating the Eid Al-Adha sacrifice feast one day following Saudi Arabia and most of the Muslim world.

Back-then, the so-called Muslim scholar lauded of critics Morocco’s said decision arguing that “their fasting [Moroccans] in the day of Arafa and their Sacrifice won’t be accepted by God.”

Commenting on the decision of the dismissing of Youssef Aïd, Dr. Abbas Chouman, a representative from Al Azhar university,  said that “Al Azhar university did not issue any statement calling Morocco’s celebration of Eid Illegal.”

“Al Azhar respects all the Muslim scholars over the world and their Ijtihads,” the man added.

“The decision was personal and does not reflect at all Al Azhar university’s point of view. That is why Youssef Aïd was dismissed,” Dr. Chouman closed.
