Morocco Hosts “Regional Conference for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) on Geneva Declaration on Armed violence and Development”

The Kingdom of Morocco organizes, on October 28th and 29th 2014, in Rabat, in cooperation with the Swiss Government, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Secretariat of the Geneva Declaration, the Regional Conference for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) on Geneva Declaration on Armed violence and Development, under the theme “Ending armed violence for peace and development.”

This Regional Conference, which will be opened by Mr. Nasser Bourita, Ambassador Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Ambassador Claude Wild, Undersecretary of State for Human Security at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, has as an objective to lay the foundations, for a common reflection on the theme of the reduction of armed violence and development and to discuss ways that are conducive to a regional dynamic and to better understand the relationship between these two themes, in the context of the countries of the region.

Rabat Regional Conference will be attended by about a hundred of MENA representatives, participants from the Sahel countries, as observers, as well as representatives of Geneva Declaration steering group member states, representatives of international, regional and sub-regional organizations, academicians and civil society.
