south africa palestineAccording to Israel’s Channel Two, three members of the commission were denied entry into Israel from Jordan on their way to Gaza. The three UN-appointed officials are currently in Amman, PIC reported.

The decision to prevent them from entering was the clearest signal yet that Israel will not be cooperating with the probe. Shortly afterwards the foreign ministry confirmed that was indeed the regime’s stance.

Earlier on Monday, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the formation of an independent panel aimed at reviewing “certain incidents reported during the recent Israeli military actions in Gaza Strip”.

The Secretary-General called for a thorough investigation into incidents where more than 100 UN facilities – including schools run by the UN agency tasked with assisting Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) – sustained hits resulting in the deaths of 42 innocent civilians and 11 UN staff members.

Over 2,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 11,000 others injured, during the most recent assault, in over a month of devastating Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip, beginning in the first week of July.
