Townsville, Australia (TMT)-Moroccan athlete Abdelaati Iguider won today the bronze medal in the 1500 meters race of the Beijing 2015 World Championships, giving Morocco its first medal since the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Japan.

The Moroccan athlete was quite posed and managed well the flow of the race. He could have even won the silver medal if he had not started to loose his balance in the last meters of the race (check video above).

The Algerian runner Taoufik Makhloufi, a bosom friend of Iguider and the 1500 meters Olympic champion at the 2012 Summer Olympics, got fourth in the race mainly as a result of his bad tactic. The Algerian attacked a bit early, leaving him exposed to Kiprop, the 1500 meters best year performance holder.

Kiprop, who won gold, was breathing down the Algerian’s neck and monitoring his main rival since the start of the race.

No doubt the Kenyan was the smartest. He only decided to make his move when Makhloufi and Iguider started to kick.

It is worth reminding that Iguider managed this year in Monaco to hit his best-ever 1500 meters performance after running the race in 3:28:79, the 8th best performance in the said distance ever.
