Tangier went dark for one hour yesterday as its citizens agreed to turn off lights to protest against Amandis, a water and electricity company.

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The locals of the Moroccan city of Tangier showed unparalleled unity and creativity when it came to turning off the lights for one hour yesterday to protest against what they called sky-rocketing prices of electricity Amandis started incurring them, including bad management of the city and a nonchalance vis-à-vis their demands.

Even mosques’ lights were turned off as candles were used instead as the image underneath shows.

As soon as Tangier went dark, citizens took to the streets, all heading to protest in front of the company’s locals calling upon its head to resign and calling the company to leave Tangier once and for all.

The demonstration went quite peacefully, and without a shadow of a doubt, with this “smart way of protesting,” the citizens of Tangier have shown a high level of civility, unity, and creativity.
